The English say that “a good beginning makes a good end.” Well, Facebook will certainly wish that 2017 ends in the same way it started for Facebook Live. New Year’s Eve set a new record for Facebook’s Live broadcasting feature.
Since its introduction, Facebook Live has failed to really impress most people. Sure, many are using it, but definitely not to the level the company had expected. This is why it has become difficult to be unaware of it. Facebook has covered all our cities with traditional OOH advertising for Live. We also get reminded to “Go Live,” every time we open the mobile app.
To go live though, one must have something to show. And this is why New Year’s Eve was set to be a record night for broadcasts.
On New Year’s Eve, millions of people across the world, one time zone at a time, used Facebook Live to share their celebrations! The following graph shows when it reached its peak across the world on the night of December 31.
Of course, publishers also used Facebook Live to share the moment. Major TV broadcasters like CNN or the BBC certainly helped boost the trend.
